Kia ora everyone
These crisp mornings and clear blue skies are making for some beautiful winter days. With
any luck, the colder snap has helped clear out some of those lingering winter bugs, and we
will be feeling ready to embrace the action-packed two weeks to come.
Our Thursday mornings have had an energetic start lately thanks to our enthusiastic Jump
Jam crew. They’ve been leading the way as they train for next term’s Seriously Jump Jam
competition. A huge thank you to everyone who supported their recent bake sale—it raised
over $600 to go towards their competition costs, and we’re so proud of their drive and
teamwork.
On Thursday, I had the pleasure of joining Room 11 for their whānau sharing afternoon. It
was wonderful to see such a great turnout keen to hear about the students’ learning, with a
focus on culturally connected stories and inquiry projects from this term.
Today, I accompanied our school choir on a special visit to Matua Radius Care. The students
shared a selection of songs they’ve been preparing for the upcoming Choir Festival, and
their performance was a true highlight for the residents. A few students even treated the
audience to solo performances—including a dance!
Next week, we turn our focus to Matariki. This is a special time for reflection, renewal, and
connection. If you haven’t experienced a hāngī before, we warmly invite you to join us on
Tuesday for this very special event. To wrap up the week, our fantastic PTA will be hosting a
Matariki Disco on Thursday evening—a fun way to celebrate the end of the term before the
Matariki public holiday on Friday.
In Week 9, we’ll be holding Learner Conferences—an important opportunity to reflect on
your child’s progress, celebrate their achievements, and set goals for the second half of the
year. School remains open during conferences, and bookings are now live—jump in now to
book a time that works best for your whānau.
We’ll also be celebrating Book Character Week in Week 9, culminating in our Book
Character Dress-Up Day on the last day of term. If your child is still deciding on a costume,
pop into the library for some inspiration. You’re welcome to donate a book and choose a
character from one of the many titles lovingly curated by our librarian, Mrs DG.
We’re nearly at the finish line with our Geo-a-thon fundraiser. Thank you for your generous
support—every dollar helps us enrich learning spaces and experiences for our tamariki and
staff. Teachers have now completed marking, so we encourage families to return sponsorship forms and funds in the named ziplock bag provided to classrooms by Thursday, 19 June.
And finally, keep an eye out for our Health & PE Community Survey, which will be shared via
HERO next Monday, 16 June. Your voice helps shape the direction of our teaching and
learning, and we truly value your input.
