Heron Herald Term 1, Week 11, 2022

Kia ora koutou,

We’ve made it to the end of a very different term, which we trust has finished well for you and your whanau.  Throughout the COVID pandemic, we have certainly felt the effects of the reduced connection between home and school.  Having whanau involved in all aspects of school life supports the depth and breadth of learning at school that we want, so we hope that Term 2 will bring opportunities to reconnect.

While we don’t know what Traffic Light level we will be at, we do know that outdoor events are now permitted.  With this in mind, we ask that you mark Monday 16th May on your calendar.  We are excited to bring the school and community together to celebrate Cross Country, have lunch together and take part in a few fun activities.  If you happen to be a competitive type, you may even want to start training with your children!  More information about this will come out early next term.

Today we farewell Hannah Thompson, who is on maternity leave from the start of Term 2.  Whaea Hannah has been a wonderful member of the Matua teaching team and will be missed by both teachers and students.  We wish Hannah all the best as she starts this exciting next season for her family.

We trust that as you begin Easter weekend and the school holidays, you have an opportunity to pause and enjoy time with your family.

Nga mihi,

Marcus Norrish
Principal

STORMWATER DRAINS

Room 22 and Room 2 – were visited by Sarahann from Tauranga City Council to educate us more around stormwater drains.  The main theme is – Stormwater drains are just for rain”. The TCC are running a competition for us and the students are designing a poster to educate the community about the stormwater drains.  The winning ones are going to be blown up and made into signs that will get put up at Fergusson Park.  Both rooms are also making i-Movie’s to educate Matua School for our next online assembly.

MIDDLE TEAM PROBLEM SOLVING DAY

The Middle Syndicate ran a problem solving day last week with all of our students. It was a huge amount of fun and incredibly successful.
