Kia ora koutou,
What a way to finish Term 2! It’s been a full and fun filled term of learning with so
many moments to celebrate.
Last Tuesday’s hāngī was a real highlight — it was so special to see our school
whānau come together around the fire in the early hours, warmed by hot chocolate
served up by the fabulous Team Lowe gals. The hangī meal was absolutely delicious,
and a big thank you goes to Matua Chris for leading the team who cooked the kai
and guiding the learning around this process again this year. It’s always a memorable
experience for us.
The Matariki Disco last Thursday was another big hit, and we appreciate our hard
working PTA team who made it happen again this year. There was so much energy
and excitement — and it was great to see our students having such a blast together
as we welcomed in the long weekend.
Parent conferences have been happening throughout the week, and we really
appreciate the time you’ve taken to come in and talk about your child’s learning.
These conversations are such an important part of your child’s learning journey.
A huge thanks to all the families who got involved in Book Week. It was lovely seeing
whānau in the library choosing books to donate. The Book Character Parade was a
fantastic way to round off the week — well done to all our creative costume winners,
and to everyone who joined in (including our staff, who really brought the fun too!).
We’ve also had lots of students putting their hands up for leading roles in next term’s
Gobsmacked Production, which is shaping up to be something very special — watch
this space!
And last, but not least, congratulations Team Matua – with fundraising still coming in,
we are thrilled to announce that our Geo-a-thon has raised over $21,000 towards
supporting learning at our school. What a fantastic effort – with a whole lot of
learning rolled in to this experience as well. I wonder if your family will make a holiday
visit to any of the places of interest you discussed while learning geography fun
facts?!
To our amazing team — thank you for making this short but jam-packed term such a
success. Your hard work, care and creativity make all the difference.
I’ll sign off as ‘Principal for a Term’ one last time by wishing you all a safe, happy, and
relaxing term break. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone, including Mr Norrish,
on Monday 14th July for an exciting start to Term 3.

WHOOPING COUGH
Whooping Cough Update
Aotearoa New Zealand remains in a whooping cough (pertussis) epidemic, with cases and hospitalisations continuing across the country.
Whooping cough causes breathing difficulties and severe coughing fits. It can be spread easily between people, usually by coughing and sneezing. It is particularly serious for pçpi (babies), tamariki (children) and older adults, and in some cases, can be fatal.
Symptoms start like a cold before developing into a persistent cough. If you or a family member develop symptoms, stay home and contact your GP for further advice. Immunisation is the best protection and is free for children aged under 18, pregnant people, and some adults. Good hygiene also helps reduce the spread. For more information, phone 0800mynurse (0800 696 8773).
Designgroup Stapleton Elliott (DGSE) is an award-winning architect practice with studios spread across Aotearoa. Formed by a large team with diverse backgrounds and skill sets, their services include Architecture, Interior Architecture, Master Planning, and Landscape Architecture. Acknowledging the weight of their responsibility as architects, a deep understanding of people, place, and culture are at the heart of their design processes.
